  World Cities is an introduction to Urban Geography that examines the process of urbanization in global perspective.  Individual cities will serve as case studies to examine the outcomes of more general processes of urban growth and change, the relationships between urbanization and economic growth, cultural change, and national development.

Course Information

Readings and Course Material

There is no required textbook.  Readings will be assigned from the Internet and websites containing resource materials relating to the process of urbanization and others dealing with individual cities.
Three websites will be used as important resources:

Students are encouraged to explore these three sites and their many links to other sites dealing with important aspects of urbanization, globalization and the emergence of a global network of Mega-city regions.
Urban Essay
All students will be required to conduct research and report upon materials drawn from the Internet and Library Sources.   A research paper (2000 word limit), focused on a specific world city and examining a specific aspect of urbanization, is required.
Grading: There will be two exams, one research paper.
First Exam  (30%) Oct 24th
Final Exam  (35%) Dec 19th
Class Activities  (15%)
Urban Essay (20%) Dec. 3rd
