The WiderNet Project currently has a copy of the eGranary
Digital Library installed
at the Iowa Medical Classification Center at Oakdale. On it
are 10 million pages of educational material that can be
used off-line - the eGranary has been set up so that access is
available only through a server on a local area network. The
version of the eGranary at IMCC was developed for use in schools
and universities in Africa. In order to make this content
available to clients at Oakdale and at other facilities (other than
on a demonstration basis), WiderNet staff is seeking additional permissions
from the creators of the content.
The content of the eGranary Digital Library was collected with Africa
in mind and, while much of it will be of interest to inmates,
obviously new content would have to be developed. There may
also be deletions of content if anything inappropriate is found.
The project, should it proceed, would be a partnership
with teachers, staff and librarians at the IMCC and at other
facilities in Iowa.
